What happened

Landlord applied to vary the percentage rent reduction determined by the City of Toronto, arguing that the residential complex falls under the multi-residential property tax class and the municipal property taxes do not rise to 20% of total annual rents charged. The Landlord also claimed there was an error in the City's calculation of the rent reduction.

The ruling

The Landlord and Tenant Board varied the rent reduction set out in the Notice of Rent Reduction issued by the City of Toronto from 1.17% to 0.69%, effective December 31, 2019. Any sum of money owed as a result of this order must be paid within 60 days of the order issuance date.
