What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenant to pay the rent that the Tenant owes. The Tenant vacated the rental unit on November 30, 2020, but the Landlord was not able to re-rent the unit until January 1, 2021, so the Tenant remains responsible for the month of December 2020.

The ruling

The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $1,800.90, which represents the rent owing up to December 31, 2020, less the last month's rent deposit. The Tenant shall also pay the Landlord $201.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by January 16, 2022, the Tenant will start to owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
