What happened

The Landlord applied for an order for the Former Tenant to pay rent arrears and daily compensation. The Former Tenant had already vacated the rental unit in July 2023. The Landlord used skip tracing services to locate the Former Tenant in British Columbia to serve the application and notice of hearing. The Former Tenant did not attend the hearing.

The ruling

The Former Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $5,160.63 by August 3, 2025. This amount includes rent arrears and compensation owing up to the date the Former Tenant vacated, plus the filing fee, less the rent deposit and accrued interest. If payment is not made by the deadline, interest will accrue at 4% annually.
