What happened

The landlord applied for an order requiring the tenants to pay the rent they owed. The tenants vacated the rental unit on January 31, 2023 and did not pay the full rent for the period from December 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023.

The ruling

The tenants are ordered to pay the landlord $2,517.82, which includes the rent arrears up to January 31, 2023 and the cost of filing the application, less the last month's rent deposit and the interest owing on the deposit. If the tenants do not pay the full amount by May 6, 2023, they will start owing interest at 6% annually on the outstanding balance.
