What happened

Landlord applied for an order terminating the tenancy of Tenant because the Tenant abandoned the rental unit. The Tenant had not paid any rent since April 1, 2020, and the Landlord's agent found the rental unit mostly empty when inspecting it in June 2020 and January 2021. The Landlord was unable to contact the Tenant since April 2020.

The ruling

The tenancy between the Landlord and Tenant is terminated. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $175 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by October 19, 2021, the Tenant will start owing simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
