What happened
Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to the Tenant running an illegal rooming house, seriously impairing safety by violating the Fire Code, and subjecting people staying in the unit to potential COVID-19 infection. The Landlord also claimed compensation for each day the Tenant remained in the unit after the termination date.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective January 9, 2021, and the Tenant must vacate the unit by that date. The Landlord is authorized to offset the Tenant's rent deposit and interest from the compensation owed to the Tenant.
