What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues included a sewage backup, a flood, a leaky window, and mold growth in the rental unit.

The ruling

The Landlords failed to maintain the rental unit in a good state of repair between June 14, 2020 and the Tenants' move-out date of July 30, 2020. The Tenants are entitled to an abatement of rent, reimbursement for a hotel stay, and reimbursement for moving expenses.
