What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet its maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The main issues were an infestation of ants and cockroaches in the rental unit.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants a rent abatement of $588.40 and to conduct proper pest control treatments until the cockroach problem is resolved. The Landlord is prohibited from serving any notice of rent increase until the cockroach problem is resolved.
