What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The application was filed after the Tenant, JW, vacated the unit and the Landlord did not receive any rent payments. The Tenant, NU, remained in the unit and became a tenant by operation of law.

The ruling

The order is varied to provide that if the Tenant, NU, does not pay the full amount owing to the Landlord by October 15, 2017, NU will start to owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
