What happened
Landlords applied to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenants due to extensive damage caused to the rental unit, including damage to the front/screen doors, window screens, interior doors, drywall, basement flooring, countertops, and removal of kitchen cabinets and flooring. The Landlords also sought $30,000 in damages.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective February 21, 2022. The Tenants must vacate the rental unit by that date. The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlords $23,125 for the reasonable costs of repairing the damage, plus $186 for the application filing fee. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by February 21, 2022, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
