What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord collected or retained money illegally. The Landlord collected a rent deposit from the Tenant but did not allow the Tenant to move into the rental unit and failed to return the rent deposit.

The ruling

The Landlord shall pay the Tenant $400 for the rent deposit and $50 for the application filing fee, for a total of $450. If the Landlord does not pay by October 20, 2020, the Landlord will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
