What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The Tenant had vacated the rental unit on December 31, 2019, prior to the hearing date.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated as of December 31, 2019. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $1,109.70, which represents the amount of rent owing and compensation up to December 31, 2019, less the rent deposit and interest the Landlord owes on the rent deposit. The Tenant shall also pay the Landlord $190.00 for the cost of filing the application. The total amount owing is $1,299.70. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by October 3, 2020, the Tenant will start to owe simple interest at 2.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
