What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Tenant paid a $1,300 deposit for first and last month's rent, but the Landlord did not give the Tenant vacant possession of the rental unit and refused to return the deposit.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $1,300 for the deposit and $50 for the cost of filing the application, for a total of $1,350. If the Landlord does not pay by March 11, 2022, the Landlord will owe interest on the outstanding balance.
