What happened
Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The Tenant has not paid the total rent the Tenant was required to pay for the period from August 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020. The Landlord served a Notice of Termination effective May 30, 2020. The Tenant paid $1,800.00 after the application was filed and vacated the rental unit on September 30, 2020.
The ruling
The tenancy between the Landlord and the Tenant terminated on September 30, 2020. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $1,774.53, which represents the amount of rent owing and compensation up to September 30, 2020. The Tenant shall also pay the Landlord $190.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount owing by March 15, 2021, the Tenant will start to owe interest at 2.00% annually on the balance outstanding.
