What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The application was initially dismissed, but the Tenants requested a review of the order.

The ruling

The original order is cancelled and replaced. The Landlords are ordered to pay the Tenants $1,914.65 for their reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while out of possession of the rental unit, as well as $48.00 for the cost of filing the application. The total amount owed to the Tenants is $1,962.65. If the Landlords do not pay the full amount by July 31, 2021, they will owe interest at 2.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
