What happened

Landlords applied to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenants because the Landlords require possession of the rental unit for the purpose of residential occupation by the Landlords' mother, who has been living with the Landlords and their three children in the Landlords' 1,100 square foot home for several months.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated effective February 27, 2021. The Tenants must vacate the rental unit by this date. The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlords $11,901.12 in compensation for use of the unit from April 1, 2020 to February 16, 2021, plus $36.96 per day from February 17, 2021 until the date they move out. The Tenants must also pay the $175 application fee. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by February 27, 2021, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
