What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord collected or retained money illegally through rent increases in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Landlord wanted to move back into the rental unit in 2018 and the parties agreed to extend the tenancy for an additional year with a rent increase.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $1,196.65 in compensation for moving out and $50 for the cost of filing the application, for a total of $1,246.65. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by March 7, 2020, they will owe interest at 3% annually on the outstanding balance.
