What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Tenant's brother and representative, Faisal Raja, and the Landlord attended the hearing. The Tenant provided evidence that he had paid a deposit to secure the rental unit, but the Landlord refused to refund the deposit when the Tenant cancelled the application.

The ruling

The Landlord shall pay the Tenant $1,750.00 for the last month's rent deposit and $53.00 for the cost of filing the application, for a total of $1,803.00. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by March 7, 2022, the Landlord will owe interest at 2.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
