What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 by failing to seal the rental unit to prevent cockroaches from entering.

The ruling

The Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations by not adequately sealing the rental unit to prevent cockroaches. The Tenant is authorized to have the repairs done and the Landlords must pay the Tenant $502.36 for the cost of the repairs, plus $48 for the application fee, by April 30, 2021. If the Landlords do not pay, the Tenant can deduct the amount from the rent.
