What happened
Tenants applied for an order determining that Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issue was a damaged kitchen countertop due to a slow leak from the kitchen faucet.
The ruling
The Landlords failed to meet their maintenance obligations under the Act and are ordered to pay the Tenants a rent abatement of $631.58 and the $48 application fee, for a total of $679.58, by December 31, 2021. If the Landlords do not pay by the due date, they will owe interest on the outstanding balance.
