What happened

Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The Tenant has not paid the total rent the Tenant was required to pay for the period from November 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020. The Landlord served a Notice of Termination effective November 30, 2019 due to the rent arrears.

The ruling

The tenancy between the Landlord and Tenant terminated on January 31, 2020. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $5,310.92, which represents the rent arrears and compensation up to January 31, 2020, less the rent deposit. The Tenant shall also pay the Landlord $190.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount owing by October 31, 2020, the Tenant will start to owe interest at 3.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
