What happened
Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenants to pay the rent they owed. The Tenants vacated the rental unit on December 1, 2020 before the proper 60-day notice period had ended, and did not find a suitable replacement renter, so the Landlord argued the Tenants were still responsible for the rent for December 2020.
The ruling
The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlord $2,000 in rent arrears for November-December 2020, plus $201 for the application filing fee. If the full amount is not paid by February 28, 2022, the Tenants will owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance starting March 1, 2022.
