What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues included bedbugs, cockroaches, mold, and rats.

The ruling

The Landlord shall pay the Tenants $400 for the nominal costs they incurred in replacing property that they disposed of as a result of the Landlord's failure to eradicate the bedbug issue and comply with applicable standards. The Landlord shall pay the full amount owing by May 11, 2021, and if not, will owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
