What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenants to pay the rent they owed. The Tenants did not pay the total rent they were required to pay for the period from February 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021, and the rent arrears owing to March 31, 2021 were $4,320.00. The Tenants vacated the rental unit on March 31, 2020, but were in possession of the rental unit on the date the application was filed.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated as of March 31, 2021, the date the Tenants gave vacant possession of the rental unit to the Landlord. The Tenants shall pay the Landlord $2,290.48, which represents the amount of rent owing up to March 31, 2021, less the rent deposit and interest the Landlord owes on the rent deposit. The Tenants shall also pay the Landlord $201.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount owing by December 11, 2021, they will start to owe simple interest at 2.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
