What happened
The tenants filed three applications against the landlords: 1) for illegally collecting or retaining money, 2) for harassment, obstruction, coercion, threats or interference, and 3) for failing to meet maintenance obligations. The main issues were unpaid interest on last month's rent deposit, interference with reasonable enjoyment due to improper eviction notice, and issues with mold and water problems.
The ruling
The landlords were ordered to pay the tenants a total of $774.28, which includes interest on the last month's rent deposit, rent abatements for interference with reasonable enjoyment and the water issue, and reimbursement for a replaced carbon monoxide detector. The tenancy was terminated as of the date the tenants vacated on November 30, 2015.
