What happened
Tenant applied for orders related to the landlord illegally changing the locks and retaining the tenant's belongings after serving an N12 notice. The landlord did not attend the hearing.
The ruling
The landlord is ordered to pay the tenant $614.40 for interest owed on the rent deposit, $4,430 as a rent abatement, $1,800 for the rent differential, and $10,000 for the value of the tenant's retained belongings. The landlord must also pay a $2,000 administrative fine to the LTB.
