What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The application was initially deemed abandoned, but the Tenant requested a review and the order was stayed. The Tenant alleged she was not reasonably able to participate in the initial hearing as she had not been notified. The review hearing was held, and the Tenant's application was amended to reflect Salamatu Jibril as the only Tenant.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $1,650, which includes the $1,400 last month's rent deposit and $250 key deposit, by October 17, 2021. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by the due date, they will owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
