What happened
Tenants filed T2 and T6 applications against Landlords for substantial interference with reasonable enjoyment, withholding vital services, and failure to maintain the rental unit. Issues included defective heating, windows, and washroom facilities, as well as pest infestations and mold.
The ruling
The Board ordered the Landlords to pay the Tenants $9,300.00, including a 50% rent abatement for 20 months and the application filing fee. The Landlords are prohibited from increasing rent or charging a new tenant higher rent until specified repairs are completed. Ongoing 50% rent abatement will continue until all repairs are made.
