What happened
Landlords applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to non-payment of rent. The Tenant, a single mother with a 2-year-old child, was struggling financially but had secured assistance from Ontario Works and was expecting to start working soon. The Board considered the circumstances and granted relief from eviction, subject to conditions.
The ruling
The Board denied the Landlords' application for eviction, conditional on the Tenant making specified payments. The Tenant must pay $6,486.00 to the Landlords, representing rent arrears and application costs. A payment plan was established, with the final payment due on March 31, 2022. If the Tenant fails to make the required payments, the Landlords may reapply for eviction within 30 days of the breach.
