What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Tenants assert that the Landlord did not return the last month's rent deposit of $3,200 when they vacated the rental unit on April 30, 2020 after receiving an N12 notice.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to refund the Tenants the $3,200 last month's rent deposit plus $367.62 in interest, and to pay the Tenants $3,200 in compensation for the N12 notice, for a total of $6,817.62. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by December 11, 2021, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
