What happened
Landlord applied to terminate the tenancy and evict the Tenant due to the Tenant, another occupant, or someone the Tenant permitted in the residential complex wilfully or negligently causing undue damage to the premises, and seriously impairing the safety of any person. The Landlord alleged the Tenant tampered with the smoke detectors in the rental unit on three separate occasions.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective February 28, 2022. The Tenant must vacate the rental unit by that date. The Tenant is ordered to pay the Landlord $299.16 for repair costs, $186 for the application filing fee, and $32.91 per day for use of the unit after March 1, 2022 if the Tenant does not vacate by February 28, 2022. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount owed by February 28, 2022, the Tenant will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
