What happened

Landlord applied for an order terminating the tenancy of Tenant because the Tenant has abandoned the rental unit. The Tenant had previously fallen behind in rent and found another place to live, but continued to pay rent for the rental unit for a period. The Tenant stopped paying rent approximately 1 year ago and the Landlord has been unable to contact the Tenant for the last 1 year.

The ruling

The Tenant has abandoned the rental unit and the tenancy is terminated. The Tenant shall pay to the Landlord $186.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the Landlord the full amount owing on or before October 23, 2021, the Tenant will start to owe interest at a rate of 2.00% annually on the balance outstanding.
