What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenant to pay the rent owed. Tenant did not attend the hearing. The Landlord's Legal Representative provided evidence showing the Tenant vacated the rental unit on May 31, 2022, and had not paid rent from November 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022.

The ruling

The tenancy was terminated effective May 31, 2022. The Tenant is ordered to pay $8,704.30 to the Landlord, which includes rent arrears up to the move-out date and the cost of filing the application, minus the rent deposit and interest on the deposit. If the Tenant does not pay by July 31, 2022, interest will start accruing at 2.00% annually on the outstanding balance.
