What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenants to pay the rent they owed. The Tenants were in possession of the rental unit on the date the application was filed but did not pay the total rent they were required to pay for the period from February 1, 2020 to March 1, 2020. The Tenants moved out of the unit on March 1, 2020 and the Landlord re-rented the unit on April 1, 2020.

The ruling

The Tenants shall pay to the Landlord $1,700.00, which represents the amount of rent owing up to March 31, 2020 less the rent deposit. The Tenants shall also pay to the Landlord $190.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenants do not pay the Landlord the full amount owing on or before January 31, 2021, the Tenants will start to owe interest at a rate of 2.00% annually on the balance outstanding.
