What happened

Landlords applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenants due to willful or negligent damage to the rental unit, including flooding from a broken toilet and unauthorized painting of the unit in dark colors. Tenants had already vacated the unit prior to the hearing.

The ruling

The Tribunal ordered the Tenants to pay the Landlords $5,000 for the reasonable costs of repairing the damage to the rental unit, as well as $175 for the application filing fee. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by November 12, 2021, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
