What happened
Landlord applied for an order to require Tenants to pay the rent they owe. The Tenants argued they never occupied the rental unit and that the tenancy agreement was frustrated due to COVID-19 and the move to online classes at McMaster University.
The ruling
The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlord $20,361, which includes $20,160 in rent arrears and $201 in application costs. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by April 24, 2021, they will start owing interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
