What happened
Landlords applied for an order requiring Tenants to pay the rent they owe. The N4 notice served to the Tenants had incorrect rental periods, so it was found to be invalid. The Landlords requested to convert the application to an L9 (rent arrears only) instead of an L1 (termination). The Tenants owed $5,850 in rent arrears up to the hearing date and had not made any payments since the application was filed.
The ruling
The Tenants are ordered to pay the Landlords $6,036, which includes $5,850 in rent arrears up to May 19, 2022 and $186 in filing costs. If the Tenants do not pay the full amount by June 4, 2022, they will start to owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
