What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Tenants paid a last month's rent deposit of $2,500 when they moved in, and the Landlord refused to return the deposit when the tenancy was terminated.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $2,500 for the last month's rent deposit that was illegally retained, as well as $50 for the cost of filing the application. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by March 13, 2022, they will owe interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
