What happened
Landlord applied for an order to terminate the tenancy and evict Tenant due to failure to pay rent. The Tenant's rent was subsidized under the Housing Services Act, but the subsidy was revoked in 2019 and the Tenant was unable to pay the unsubsidized rent, resulting in arrears accumulating.
The ruling
The tenancy is terminated effective October 31, 2021. The Tenant must pay the Landlord $18,257.34 in arrears and compensation, plus $31.17 per day from September 10, 2021 until the unit is vacated. The Tenant can void the eviction order by paying $18,956 by September 30, 2021 or $19,904 by October 31, 2021.
