What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord failed to meet the Landlord's maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. The issues included vermin, leaking windows, cracked walls, lack of heat, handrails, and kitchen cupboards.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant a rent abatement of $1,000 and $50 in compensation for damaged property. The Landlord is also ordered to repair or replace the kitchen cupboards by August 31, 2018.
