What happened
Tenant applied for an order determining that Landlord failed to meet maintenance obligations under the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 or failed to comply with health, safety, housing or maintenance standards. There were two water leakage incidents in the rental unit that caused damage to the flooring for approximately 2.5 months.
The ruling
The Landlord shall pay the Tenant a rent abatement of $1,140 and $53 as reimbursement for the filing fee, for a total of $1,193. The Landlord shall pay the Tenant the full amount owing by January 17, 2022. If the Landlord does not pay by that date, the Landlord will owe simple interest at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
