What happened

Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenant to pay the rent that the Tenant owes. The Tenant did not pay the total rent the Tenant was required to pay for the period from October 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The Tenant vacated the rental unit on May 31, 2021.

The ruling

The tenancy is terminated as of May 31, 2021, the date the Tenant gave vacant possession of the rental unit to the Landlord. The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $1,578.88, which represents the amount of rent owing up to May 31, 2021, less the last month rent deposit. The Tenant shall also pay the Landlord $201.00 for the cost of filing the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount owing by October 23, 2021, the Tenant will start to owe interest at 2.00% annually on the balance outstanding.
