What happened
Tenant filed an application about maintenance issues in the rental unit, including a hole in the bathroom ceiling, leaking, mould, issues with kitchen cabinets and stove. Landlord was not aware of the initial hearing due to notice being sent to a former employee.
The ruling
The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant a rent abatement of $1,152.10 for the maintenance issues, and to complete the necessary repairs by May 30, 2021. If the repairs are not completed by the deadline, the Tenant is entitled to an ongoing rent abatement of 2.5% per month until the repairs are done. The Landlord must also pay the Tenant $45 for the application filing fee.
