What happened

Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Landlord requested a review of the original order. The review found that the Tenant did not receive notice of the original hearing, and that the Landlord charged an illegal rent increase and failed to pay the Tenant compensation for terminating the tenancy.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenant $664, which includes $164 in excess rent and $500 in compensation for terminating the tenancy. If the Landlord does not pay by June 21, 2021, interest will accrue at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
