What happened
Landlord applied for an order requiring Tenant to pay the rent that the Tenant owes. The parties consented to amend the application to add the new Landlord Circle Community Land Trust. The previous Landlord, Toronto Community Housing, could collect the arrears of rent owing for the period ending July 31, 2022. The Tenant was still in possession of the rental unit as of the hearing date and did not pay the total rent they were required to pay for the period from March 1, 2020 to July 31, 2022.
The ruling
The Tenant shall pay the Landlord $31,568, which includes rent arrears up to July 31, 2022 and the cost of the application. If the Tenant does not pay the full amount by February 25, 2023, the Tenant will start to owe interest at 5% annually on the outstanding balance.
