What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Landlord failed to pay the required one-month compensation to the Tenants when terminating the tenancy for personal use.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $1,700 as the one-month compensation required under the Act, plus $53 for the application filing fee, for a total of $1,753. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by March 3, 2022, interest will accrue at 2% annually on the outstanding balance.
