What happened

Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord has collected or retained money illegally. The Tenants paid a $1,000 rent deposit, but the Landlord refused to return it when the Tenants were not allowed to move in as agreed.

The ruling

The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $1,000 for the rent deposit he collected, plus $50 for the cost of filing the application. If the Landlord does not pay the full amount by January 22, 2021, he will owe interest on the outstanding balance.
