What happened

The tenant applied for an order determining that the landlord substantially interfered with the reasonable enjoyment of the rental unit or residential complex, and that the landlord gave a notice of termination in bad faith. The landlord claimed he needed the property for his parents to move in, but later admitted this was a lie to regain possession, and the property was sold shortly after the tenant vacated.

The ruling

The Board found that the landlord gave a notice of termination in bad faith, and ordered the landlord to pay the tenant $1,095 in moving costs and $10,800 in rent differential for 12 months.
