What happened
The Tenants applied for an order determining that the Landlord substantially interfered with their reasonable enjoyment due to severe vermin infestations (cockroaches, rats, and bedbugs) and various maintenance issues. The Tenants moved out before the end of their lease term because of these conditions. The Landlord failed to attend the hearing despite being served.
The ruling
The LTB ordered the termination of the tenancy effective May 31, 2024. The Landlord is ordered to pay the Tenants $1,746.83, which includes a 15% rent abatement ($1,696.58), out-of-pocket expenses for pest traps ($2.25), and the application filing fee ($48.00).
