What happened

The Landlords applied for termination and eviction due to non-payment of rent. The Tenants, facing financial hardship due to pregnancy-related health issues and awaiting disability benefits, requested relief from eviction. The LTB considered the Tenants' circumstances and granted a conditional order allowing them to remain in the unit provided they follow a long-term repayment schedule for arrears totaling over $15,000.

The ruling

The Tenants are ordered to pay $15,276.00 in rent arrears and costs. However, eviction is stayed on the condition that the Tenants pay $200.00 per month toward the arrears starting December 1, 2025, in addition to their regular monthly rent. This plan extends until April 2032. If the Tenants fail to make any payment, the Landlords may apply for an ex parte eviction order.
